DIGIMOTO – THE FUTURE BIKE EXPERIENCE
A design concept study designed and prototyped in virtual reality.
The concept itself puts sensors and cameras on the motorcycle which record all information around the bike, translates the generated data into rider-relevant information and displays it directly onto the visor of the rider‘s helmet.
As a result, all the display elements on the bike become superfluous and this allows for drastic streamlining. The stringent reduction to essential components allows for Zanzotti‘s consistently minimalist design with the highest level of functionality.
FUTURISM x TRADITION
The basis for the study was a BMW R 1200 R.
The machine, which was still brand new at the beginning of the study, was completely dismantled and stripped back to its iconic boxer engine and parts of the frame. Precise 3D-scans were followed by new developments of the individual components and the digital Virtual Reality design phases for individual parts.
The rough aluminium tank cobbled together by hand meets manufactured components made with modern techniques – such as the 3D-printed cooling element of the headlight – and thus closes the gap between futurism and tradition in this finished show bike.
WHO IS BEHIND THIS
ZANZOTTI is the initiator of DIGIMOTO, he works as an industrial designer with a focus on vehicle and product design.
Zanzotti`s approach to design is highly emotional and at the same time characterised by reduced forms. His striking designs lead to outstanding results by exploring technological boundaries. The German Design Council has awarded Zanzotti with the German Design Award as Best Newcomer of the Year in 2014.
GRAY DEVELOPMENT is an innovation and development forge in Munich, whose core expertise includes holistic and sustainable product design and development of new production methods. Gray has made the project possible by using innovative analysis, development, and manufacturing processes.
The long-established company, WUNDERLICH, has become the world’s largest BMW premium motorcycle outfitter in the last 25 years. Thanks to many years of experience in the motorcycle industry, the initial vision evolved into a ready-to-ride finished product.
WHY THIS PROJECT?
DIGIMOTO is a design concept study of the future bike experience.
We wanted to prove a Zeitgeist way of designing and developing products.
CAN I BUY THIS?
No, it’s not for sale.
IS IT STREET-LEGAL?
Not really. It’s a concept.
DOES IT DRIVE?
Yes, it rides like hell. But of course, as this would be illegal, we don’t do that.
CAN I BUY IT IF THE PRICE DOES NOT MATTER?
Ah, now we talk. Please contact us.
CAN I BORROW DIGIMOTO FOR MY NEXT HOLLYWOOD MOVIE?
Depends on the movie. Just get in touch with us.
